Resin in Filey

What Filey's conditions mean for your resin

What suits a Filey driveway best usually comes down to access and upkeep. The older terraces near the seafront and Church Ravine often have narrow approaches that rule out large machinery, so the ground works get planned around what can actually reach the site, which can affect timescale more than it does for a straightforward job. The newer estates off Muston Road and West Avenue are easier to access but sit on the same water-holding ground as the rest of the coast, so the sub-base still needs the depth that requires. With so many Filey properties being second homes or retirement properties, low-maintenance is usually the deciding factor, which is why permeable resin and block paving account for most of what we install here, tarmac is rarely the first choice unless the drive is a large one.

Two systems both get called "resin driveways": resin bound and resin bonded. Resin bound mixes the aggregate through the resin and trowels it to a level, permeable finish, this is what we install. Resin bonded scatters loose stone onto a resin layer, which looks similar at first but isn't permeable and sheds stones over time. If a quote seems unusually cheap, check which system it actually is.

Is it time?

Signs you need a new driveway

  • Loose gravel spreading onto the path and road
  • Standing water or puddles that never quite drain
  • Cracked, sunken or weed-ridden block paving
  • A tired tarmac surface that's gone grey and crumbly at the edges

Resin vs traditional gravel

Loose gravel is cheap to lay but you'll spend years raking it back into place, topping it up, and pulling weeds. Resin-bound gravel locks every stone in place on a permeable base, so you get the same natural look with a smooth, firm surface that's easy to walk, wheel a bin over, or clear of snow. For most homeowners it pays for itself in maintenance saved.

Reviews

What Filey customers say

Had block paving done after two other firms let us down. Proper sub-base, no puddles, and they cleaned up every evening. Faultless.

Second driveway they've done for family now. Always on time, always clean, and the resin still looks new two winters on.

FAQs

Resin Driveways questions, answered

Is a resin driveway permeable?

Yes, when it's laid on the correct permeable base, resin-bound gravel lets water drain straight through the surface. That keeps you within permitted development rules, so you won't normally need planning permission for a front driveway.

How long does a resin driveway take to install?

Most domestic driveways take two to three days from start to finish, depending on the size and the ground works needed. The resin itself cures and is ready to walk on within a few hours and to drive on the next day.

Will resin fade or go patchy near the coast?

Not if it's the right product. We use UV-stable resin and natural aggregates, which hold their colour in strong sun and sea air. Cheaper non-UV resins are the ones that yellow and go patchy, and we don't use them.
